Superchucker release debut full-length CD "Widespread Panic!"

Superchucker was born in the fall of 2017 in around Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  The original idea was created from some demos that Steve recorded under the moniker "Chucker" in 2016.  A few months later, Dave and Steve (who had been recently in a Judas Priest tribute together) began discussing the use of those songs as a launching pad for a new band.  Shawn had played in the tribute with the other two as well.  His chops were more than adequate to fill the slot, and he wanted to be a part of it.  Steve had played bass in the Priest tribute (even though normally a guitar player in Piledriver and Spewgore) but wanted to hold down the bottom end.  Rob Hassey (drums) and Steve played in a cover band a few years prior and was the first choice to join the unit, and he agreed.   The band decided on the name Superchucker which was an extension of the original plan.

The four-piece rehearsed for a few months with a nice body of work forming, but a second guitarist would give the songs a fuller sound.  Stavros was a member of heavy metal tribute band Muffin (with Dave and Steve) and was into the music as well as an excellent guitarist, so he joined and the full lineup was solidified.  After a few more months polishing those tunes, writing new ones as well as learning a couple covers, the band released a self-titled 4-song EP and played its first show in April 2018.

Superchucker was gaining a loyal following throughout the remainder of 2018, playing some good support slot shows in the Greater Toronto Area.  The band continued to write, and on November 1 released their debut video for the new song "Liar".  The song was proving to be a local hit and would be a highlight at every show.  Some internet radio stations were also catching wind of the song and playing it.

In April 2019, Superchucker released "Liar!", which was an expanded version of the first EP but now included the new tune plus two covers.  One, the classic "Allied Forces" from Canadian legends Triumph and two, "The Hellion/Electric Eye" - a throwback to the Judas Priest tribute of a couple years prior.  The band began headlining some shows of their own, as well as some excellent support shows, including a direct support slot for Warrior Soul in Hamilton, Ontario.

Superchucker had actually been recording between all the shows and EP release.  From December 2018 to August 2019, the 10-song debut full-length "Widespread Panic!" was created.  Mixed and mastered by Shawn Pegg late 2019 and early 2020.
The band played a short run of cover shows featuring a good amount of Judas Priest as well as everything from Dokken to Y & T to Cheap Trick et cetera in the first couple of months of 2020 to generate some additional interest in the band, knowing the debut album release was approaching.  Unfortunately, during the run of shows, Covid-19 was becoming a worldwide pandemic and putting a damper on more show opportunities.  The album was done and shipped off to press, then all businesses shut down a few days later - leaving the release in limbo.  Thankfully, the pressing had been completed and after a couple months, was shipped.

For the time being, and with the current world situation, "Widespread Panic!" will be without a proper show to launch its release.  Regardless, the 10 song CD is an excellent hard rock record with influences such as Thin Lizzy, Dokken, Van Halen, Judas Priest and many more within the songs.  The band brings a retro feel with a modern punch and will be a welcome addition to the rock world.
June 1, 2020 will be a "Widespread Panic!".
