Steve Grimmett's GRIM REAPER "At The Gates" : Album Review
With long-standing member Steve Grimmett at the helm, the band is back with a vengeance with the highly anticipated "At The Gates". After the last few years of multiple health issues and physical setbacks, nobody would've blamed Steve if he had packed it in and called it a day. But the legendary Grim Reaper frontman battled through and came out on the other side with one hell of a metal record!
"At the Gates' should satisfy long-time Reaper fans as well as converting some new ones. With all the fore mentioned setbacks the one thing you can count on when laying the needle down on a new Reaper platter is that the voice is and always has been a driving force.
Grimmett still maintains the vocal power and conviction that we came to love in the eighties with tracks such as 'Shadow in the Dark', 'What Lies Beneath' and 'Under the Hammer' having all the appeal of old-school Grim Reaper, Saxon and a bit of early Paul Dianno Iron Maiden thrown in for good measure. It's worth more than a few listens.
For fans of NWOBHM there's a lot to like here. A may not reach the heights of the bands early works "See You In Hell" or "Fear No Evil" but after a few spins, you'll find yourself enjoying this one more and more. Long live the Reaper!
