Rob Halford needs no introduction he's a legend in the metal and rock world and has a voice that resonates the world over. Even more impressive is that at age 68 the man, the myth, the legend himself still sounds as powerful and brutal as ever.
Halford has just released his second Christmas album "Celestial" under the moniker Rob Halford with Family and Friends. The band consists largely of relatives, with his brother Nigel Halford on the drums, his nephew Alex Hill on the bass and his sister Sue Halford on the bells, among a few other contributors.
"Celestial" is a bombastic rocket-fueled sleigh ride of metal. The album consists primarily of amped-up Christmas classics, along with a few Christmas-themed original tunes.
"Deck the Halls," provides a raucous metal ride set to the old-time Christmas lyrics, pounding drums and guitars rip throughout leaving whatever trepidation for Christmas music you may have had laying in the waste. "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", "Away in a Manger" amazingly make for some solid heavy metal. The Halford original "Donner and Blitzen" has a killer Priest vibe with his own take on the story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Making it an instant Christmas classic.
"Celestial," stands as not only a great Christmas album, but one hell of a metal album! Reaffirming Rob Halford's place as the Metal God!
