TAKE IT OFF: KISS TRULY UNMASKED Book Coming In November

There is a common misconception about KISS, one of the greatest hard rock/heavy metal bands of all-time—that their ‘non-makeup era’ is not as enduring as the makeup era. This is untrue. It was this period that helped resuscitate KISS’s career, and some of their most popular songs are from this era ("Lick It Up", "Heaven’s On Fire", "Tears Are Falling", "Crazy Crazy Nights", "Hide Your Heart", "Forever", "Unholy"), while some of these tracks consistently found their way into the band’s setlists.

Greg Prato is a writer and journalist from Long Island, New York, whose writing has appeared in such renowned publications as Rolling Stone, Classic Rock, and Vintage Guitar. He is also the author of books including Shredders! The Oral History Of Speed Guitar (And More) and The Eric Carr Story. And you may even have heard one of his many radio appearances, which include interviews on The Howard Stern Wrap-Up Show, Eddie Trunk Live, and The Ron & Fez Show.

With the majority of KISS books focusing primarily on the makeup era, the non-makeup years are ripe to be explored in book form. And that just so happens to the basis of Take It Off: KISS Truly Unmasked, the latest book by respected author Greg Prato.

Take It Off focuses on the twelve KISSalbums issued during their non- makeup era—including such gold and/or platinum-certified albums as Lick It Up, Animalize, Crazy Nights, Revenge, and Alive III. Each chapter begins with a review of one of those albums, followed by all-new interviews with key figures involved in this era of the band’s career and world-renowned KISS experts.

Among the contributors are non-makeup-era KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, Crazy Nightsproducer Ron Nevison, and video director Paul Rachman, plus ANTHRAX’s Charlie Benante, ex-JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing, ex-DREAM THEATER keyboardist Derek Sherinian, and rock music experts like Eddie Trunk, Katherine Turman, and Lonn Friend. Also included is a foreword by FOZZYfrontman Chris Jericho and an afterword by acclaimed producer Andreas Carlsson.

With KISS currently in the midst of their last ever tour, now is the time to get Truly Unmasked!
